The month of May means it’s time to toast the 27th Juliet Cullinan Standard Bank Wine Festival taking place at Summer Place in Hyde Park.
Much-fêted by the media for its tastings and talks by the industry’s cellar-celebs, South Africa’s most exclusive, longest running festival showcasing the Cape’s finest wineries takes place on May 16 & 17, this year. (2017).
Visitors can taste the latest vintages, discover dozens of quality labels, discuss everything from wine evolution to regional differences with leading producers, or simply learn how to distinguish a Chenin Blanc from a Chardonnay and discover the unique nuances found in wine regions.
Apart from the opportunity to meet winemakers and hear their stories, this year’s interactive experience will enable you to “take your palate on a voyage” and discover how colour, texture, and temperature affect your taste buds.
Says Juliet Cullinan: “Thanks to our 17-year sponsorship by Standard Bank, we’ve been able to further refine our commitment to satisfy palates and stimulate debate. This year should be our best yet, as small, select boutique wineries present innovative blends in an elegant, convivial setting.”
Visitors to the 27th Juliet Cullinan Standard Bank Wine Festival can expect unsurpassed social interaction with the country’s top cellar masters and producers in an up-market, intimate venue.
Life-long friendships are forged as connoisseurs and oenophiles the world over, return year after year to chat to experts and individual winemakers who share their knowledge with enthusiasm.
“The Festival’s philosophy has always been to showcase wines with a ‘sense of place’ with limited quantities of exceptional bottles. Our unique boutique wineries – a vitrine of the Cape’s finest cellars – are handpicked for their quality and distinction. Most have excelled internationally, which accounts for the success and continued popularity of South Africa’s most coveted annual celebration.”
Cheers! We’ll drink to that!

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT
“My pride in SA wines drives me to promote the supreme”, says Juliet Cullinan. “Its all about excellence – quality wineries, quality guests, quality service. It's a small personal show, elite boutique wineries with limited quantities of exceptional wine.
Guests love it because we deliver. They get to taste South Africa’s finest wines and meet winemakers to discuss vintages, maturation and terroir. They can buy wines at special show prices through the Makro “Sip & Shop”.
Our greatest support has come from the Standard Bank sponsorship over 17 years. We have built our reputation on a solid foundation of continuity, celebration and commitment to offer the very best experience for both the winery and the taster. The festival continues to grow in stature and excellence.
